Rotaviruses causes vomiting and diarrhoea and are the most common cause of severe diarrhoea in children, killing about 600,000 children every year in developing countries. As well as many deaths, rotavirus causes about two million hospital visits for diarrhoea and vomiting each year. In the US alone the virus hits 2.7 million children under 5 years of age each year, 70,000 of which end up hospitalised.
There are vaccines currently available for certain strains of Rotavirus but not one that is effective against all strains. PepTcell's vaccine is aimed at protecting against all strains and possibly providing therapeutic benefit as well.
